The Leader-Herald in Fulton County, New York, has an

opening for Assistant Managing Editor. Situated in the

foothills of the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York,

The Leader-Herald is an award-winning

daily newspaper serving three counties.

The Leader-Herald offers

competitive pay, along with a generous benefits package

including medical insurance and 401K.

The successful candidate will have strong copy-editing

and reporting skills and the ability to guide reporters.

The job involves editing stories, writing

headlines, coaching reporters, page design, writing

editorials and occasional reporting. Strong organizational

skills are a must. The successful candidate

must be able to work independently and with a team.

The candidate must know Quark, Photoshop and general

word processing.

Qualifications include:


• The ability to carry out all the duties and responsibilities

described above,serving as both an editor and reporter as

needed.

• A four-year degree in journalism, communication or a

related field is preferred. A two-year degree can be

substituted with a minimum of two years experience post-

college in the field of journalism.


• Knowledge of best practices in journalism, Associated

Press style and search engine optimization.


• Must be well organized with excellent verbal and written

communication skills.
